EPRI names Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power CEO to board of directors

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has appointed Dr. Seok Cho, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company (KHNP), to its Board of Directors. Cho will fill an interim board seat until 2015 when he will be nominated to a 4-year-term, ending in 2019.

At KHNP, he is responsible for the company’s 23 nuclear reactors that supply 30 percent of the Korea’s electricity needs.

Cho also served as Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; CEO of the Korea Industrial Complex Corp.; Deputy Minister for Industry in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy; and Director General for Energy and Resources Policy in the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Energy.

“Dr. Cho’s deep knowledge of the nuclear industry will be an invaluable asset to our board as we focus our research activities on creating a less-carbon intensive generation portfolio,” said EPRI President and CEO Mike Howard.

KHNP is in the process of building four nuclear power units in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and as many as eight others are planned or are under construction in Korea.
