Exelon Generation awards GE Hitachi $300M in outage services, fuel contracts

Exelon Generation (NYSE: EXC) has awarded an integrated outage contract, worth nearly $300 million, to GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) for the utility’s fleet of boiling water reactor (BWR) nuclear energy facilities.

Under terms of the agreement, GEH will provide nuclear fuel services for six Exelon reactors and outage and inspection services to Exelon’s fleet of 14 BWR facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Northeast. The contract runs through the completion of the spring 2018 outage season. GEH will also perform refuel floor activities and performing under-vessel and inspection services for Exelon’s BWRs.

The fuel contract extends Global Nuclear Fuel’s (a GE-led joint venture) current work at six Exelon reactors and is in addition to the four other Exelon BWRs the company also fuels.
