Georgia Power has completed another milestone in the construction of Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 near Waynesboro, Georgia.
On Monday, the project team successfully installed a 180,000-pound CA05 module into the Unit 3 nuclear island. The module is housed within the Unit 3 containment building and includes reinforced steel plates that will be filled with concrete to provide structural support for the containment building. The protective walls of CA05 will also separate various rooms in the containment.
Most recently, a 1.9 million-pound lower ring was place on top of the Unit 3 CVBH.
Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), is overseeing construction and will operate the two new 1,100-MW AP1000 units for Georgia Power and co-owners Oglethorpe Power Corp., the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and Dalton Utilities.
