B&W considers splitting power generation, nuclear & gov’t businesses

Babcock & Wilcox (B&W, NYSE: BWC) said it is looking into splitting its power generation and government and nuclear businesses into two publicly traded companies.

B&W said it would provide more details on the plans when it reports its third-quarter results in early November, according to The Wall Street Journal. In the company’s second quarter, the power generation segment’s revenue dropped 31 percent, while revenue from the nuclear operations decreased 11 percent, the article said. Company shares are down about 19 percent this year through the close of the markets on Sept. 30.
