Nuclear waste treatment plant set for Sellafield site for $540mn

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) said that its joint venture with AMEC and Balfour Beatty was picked to support a major nuclear clean up project in the UK for up to £336 million ($540 million).

The joint venture will deliver its Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) project to Sellafied Ltd. over the next four years. The BEP will treat nuclear waste recovered from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo (MSSS) Program, immobilize it and prepare it for long-term storage. The BEP may also process waste recovered during the decommissioning of other Sellafield facilities including the First General Magnox Storage Pond and the Pile Fuel Storage Pond.

Under terms of the contract, the joint venture will deliver the complete life cycle of services, from design, engineering, procurement, installation, and construction management through to inactive commissioning.
