Bruce B nuclear units granted life extension

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) approved the operation of the Bruce B Units 5 and 6 nuclear reactors in Ontario beyond their 210,000 equivalent full power hours (EFPH) threshold.

CNSC’s approval allows Bruce Power to run the units temporarily beyond the EFPH up to a maximum of 245,000 EFPH. The matter will be considered as part of relicensing hearings for Bruce Nuclear Generating Station planned for February and April 2015. The operating licenses for Bruce A and B are valid until May 31, 2015.
