Cogeneration power plant planned for Florida cellulose plant

Eight Flags Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities Corp. (NYSE: CPK), will build a combined heat and power (CHP) plant on Amelia Island in Florida.

The CHP plant will produce 20 MW of baseload power that will be sold to Chesapeake’s subsidiary, Florida Public Utilities Co. The site will be built adjacent to a cellulose specialties plant operated by Rayonier Advanced Materials. It will use a Solar Turbines Titan 250 industrial gas turbine generator set and a Rentech Boiler Systems heat recovery steam generator.

Pending all approvals, construction will begin in early 2015 with commercial operation expected in July 2016.
