Monday night, Hawaiian Electric requested that its customers conserve electricity after the Kalaeloa and Waiau power plants experienced issues after two major generators shutdown.
Crews were able to repair the generator at the Waiau site, however, the generator at Kalaeloa is still offline, according to KHON2.
“There was a leak in the component in one of the boilers so we needed to make sure that was corrected before we could bring it back into service,” said HECO spokesman Darren Pai.
Issues at Waiau were discovered during scheduled maintenance. Officials say there’s still an issue with the connection between the Kalaeloa power plant and the electrical grid.
HECO has not released a timeframe for the connection to be repair.
