Russian-built nuclear reactor set for Belarus project in 2015

Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom said it will deliver the first reactor for a nuclear power plant under construction in Belarus in 2015.

The plant will use the AES-2006 plant design, which uses two VVER-1200 water-cooled reactors at a capacity of 1,200 MW each. AEM-Technologies, a subsidiary that is building the reactor and its internal devices, said it would deliver the reactor by the end of 2015, according to Ria Novosti. The plant will have two nuclear reactors with the first expected to be completed by 2017. Both units are slated for completion in July 2020, the article said. Construction reportedly costs $10 billion.
