Mandatory tests at the 1,000-MW Kudankulam nuclear power Unit 1 have been completed, and the unit is expected to restart soon.
The first unit was shut down for annual maintenance, which is near completion, according to the Business Standard. The second unit is expected to begin operations this financial year.
The first unit attained criticality in July 2013, and was the first of two 1,000-MW Russian-built nuclear reactors. India’s Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. is the plant operator.
