Columbiana Hi Tech (CHT), a unit of Areva Inc., began construction on a facility in North Carolina that will expand the company’s capacity to manufacture dry storage containers for spent nuclear fuel.

Approximately 75 employees will be based in the building that will serve as CHT’s main manufacturing location and headquarters. Samet Corp., a development and construction company, is building the new building that will be combined with the current facility in Greensboro. It will feature four fabrication bays and a crane capacity of 40 tons and will produce at least 48 units a year of Areva TN’s NUHOMS dry-shielded canisters.
