Ground broken on combined-cycle natural gas-fired project in Pennsylvania

Panda Patriot natural gas-fired power plant

Gemma Power Systems LLC, Panda Power Funds, Siemens Energy (NYSE: SI) and others celebrated the groundbreaking of an 829-MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle project in Pennsylvania.

Gemma Power Systems LLC, through a joint venture with The Lane Construction Corp., is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the Panda Patroit Generating Station project. The plant will use two Siemens SGT6-8000H gas turbines, two SST6-5000 steam turbines, two hydrogen-cooled SGen6-2000H generators, two heat recovery steam generators, the complete electrical system and SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system. The Patriot plant is scheduled for completion in 2016.

A similar gas-fired plant, the Panda Liberty, is about 45 percent completed. Both plants are being built to take advantage of the Marcellus Shale.
