Areva to design & build low-level nuclear waste storage at INL

Areva Federal Services was awarded a $30 million contract to provide engineering, construction and commissioning of a remote-handled low-level waste disposal facility at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

Batelle Energy Alliance, which manages the INL on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy, awarded the contract. The new storage facility will provide 225 concrete vaults located 25 feet underground to store additional canisters that will hold low-level waste from the operations of the DOE’s research programs.
