Unit 1 at Plant Vogtle in Georgia automatically shut down July 27th during testing.
Workers with Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), were performing a trip mechanism test when employees identified speed and steam generator levels were lowering and initiated a manual trip. A forced outage response team was formed to determine the cause of the trip.
Unit 2 continues to operate at full power. A restart time for Unit 1 has not been determined.
