Callaway nuclear power station granted extension for generator

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) granted an extension to Ameren Missouri (NYSE: AEE) to install a portable generator at a nuclear power plant.

The NRC extended Callaway Energy Center’s deadline to have a portable generator available to power spent fuel pool instrumentation in case of a natural disaster, according to the Fulton Sun. The requirement is part of a 2012 order following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.

The plant is expected to be in full compliance by this fall, the article said. Completion of the construction of an on-site building to store a portable generator is also on schedule for late 2014.
