Caterpillar adds two diesel power modules for IPP providers

Caterpillar Inc. has introduced its Cat® XQC1600 and Cat XQC1200 diesel power modules for international power project (IPP) providers.

The Cat XQC1600 is rated for use between 1515-kW and 1705-kW and is equipped with an updated Cat 3516C-HD diesel engine. The Cat XQC1200 can be used for 1150-kW and 1260-kW, and utilizes the redesigned Cat 3512C-HD diesel engine.

“The XQC1600 and XQC1200 power modules utilize proven Cat engine platforms redesigned to provide improved fuel economy,” said Brian Kruse, general manager for Caterpillar Rental Power.

The Cat XQC1600 is available now for rent, while the XQC1200 will be available later this year.

Both modules incorporate a variable frequency drive and high-efficiency fans requiring up to 80 percent less power compared to traditional direct drive cooling fans. The engine enhancements  also deliver up to a 9 percent improvement in fuel economy, respectively.
