Kudankulam nuclear Unit 2 may be operational in 8 months

The second unit at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in India is expected to be operational in the next eight months.

According to The Times of India, an official with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, said the reactor would be operational in a year at the most. The spent fuel at Kudankulam would have to be stored for at least 10 years, but reprocessing can be performed after many steps are taken, including getting permission from the International Atomic Energy Agency because the plant is under safeguards, the article said.
