Kurion to treat nuclear waste water at Fukushima power plant

Kurion Inc. was awarded a contract to deliver an at-tank mobile system to treat tank water at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.

Kurion will deliver its Kurion Mobile Processing System to remove strontium from the hundreds of water storage tanks on site that contain approximately 400,000 metric tons of water, a volume that is expanding by 400 tons per day. The first set of equipment is already on site at the plant’s staging area for inspection, and plans are set to ship the rest of the equipment in the coming weeks. Kurion expects the system to be operational by the summer.

Kurion was picked in 2011 as part of an international team of nuclear waste management companies to deliver the first ever external reactor cooling and purification system at Fukushima.
