Turkey nuclear power plant to be operational by 2023

Turkey’s planned Akkuyu nuclear power plant is expected to be operational by 2023.

According to, investment in the plant will amount to $20 billion. Power generated by the plant is expected to contribute to 17 percent of the country’s electricity demand.

Rosatom signed an agreement in 2011 to build and operate a four-reactor, 4.8-GW nuclear plant along the Mediterranean coast. The Russian utility said it would invest $2.5 billion in the country’s nuclear sector, and has already sent $1.39 billion toward construction of the plant.
