Regulators approve Georgia Power wind contract

In a unanimous vote, the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) approved Georgia Power’s power purchase agreement with the Blue Canyon Phase II and VI wind farms in Oklahoma.

Beginning 2016, Georgia Power will buy 250-MW of wind energy from EDP Renewables wind farms.

“It is significant anytime we can diversify our generation resources by adding cost-effective renewables. This is an exciting time to add wind generation to our portfolio,” Georgia Power Spokesperson John Kraft said.

The contracts were submitted in April 2013 but required PSC approval.
