Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), and Turner Renewable Energy acquired a 50-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in New Mexico from First Solar. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
First Solar built and will operate and maintain the Macho Springs Solar Facility. Construction on the plant began in July 2013 and commercial operation is scheduled to start soon. The electricity generated from the project will be sold to El Paso Electric under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
