Emerson upgrades gas turbine controls

Piqua Power System, located in Ohio, has successfully upgraded its OEM turbine controls.

Emerson Process Management replaced the 40-year-old Units 8 and 9 with its Ovation™ turbine control technology. Previously the units utilized GE Frame 5 and Westinghouse W191 turbines.

“We had an aggressive schedule for completion of this project. Emerson was able to deliver a superior solution in a compressed timeframe, returning our gas turbines to service when we needed them most,” said Ed Krieger, Piqua Power System Director.

In addition, Emerson also upgraded the fuel valve and extended exhaust thermocouple at Unit 8; and replaced the pressure switch and gauge cabinet, starting diesel engine controls, ignition system, liquid fuel flow divider and vibration system at Unit 9.
