Salem nuclear power unit trips offline for third time in a month

Salem nuclear Unit 1 in New Jersey automatically tripped offline on May 7 due to a generator protection relay and subsequent Automatic Feedwater System actuation.

According to a report that plant owner PSEG Nuclear filed with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), a troubleshooting team is working to determine the cause of the generator protection actuation.

The unit automatically shut down April 8 following the loss of an operating steam generator feed pump. The unit went offline again April 13 for an unknown reason.
