Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) entered into an agreement with Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, home to the U.S. Marine Corps’ II Marine Expeditionary Force, to expand its natural gas facilities at the base located in Jacksonville, N.C.
The expansion will cost approximately $15 million. Upon the completion, the expansion will include more than 55 miles of new natural gas mains, services, and other facilities to approximately 500 existing structures to help increase the energy efficiency.
The new natural gas facilities will allow Camp Lejeune to offset inefficiencies associated with coal and fuel-oil fired steam system.
Buildings will be disconnected from the existing steam generators and replaced with a more efficient natural gas boiler unit.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
