Beaver Valley Unit 2 taken offline for refueling, maintenance outage

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), said its Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 2 was taken offline April 19 for scheduled refueling and maintenance.

While the unit is offline, one-third of the reactor’s 157 fuel assemblies will be replaced and numerous safety inspections will be conducted.

Beaver Valley Unit 2 will also undergo a number of projects in preparation for replacement of the unit’s three steam generators and reactor head in 2017.

To date, the 904-MW Beaver Valley Unit 2 has generated more than 11.7 million megawatt hours of electricity since the completion of its last refueling in November 2012.
