Plant Vogtle Unit 2 automatically shut down April 8 after low steam generator levels were discovered.
Unit 2 was running at full power when digital feedwater trouble alarms were received on all four steam generators. Workers with Southern Co. (NYSE: SO) began abnormal operating procedure for feedwater malfunction when steam generator 3 level began rapidly lowering. Workers tried to take manual control of the generator but were unable to raise the level, which caused the reactor to automatically trip.
All backup equipment worked properly and the reactor was safely shut down. Operators are continuing to investigate the cause of the issue.
