Kazakhastan nuclear company head suspected of embezzlement

Valery Shevelyov, executive director of Kazakhstan’s uranium producer and nuclear-fuel cycle operator KazAtomProm, was arrested on corruption charges.

According to World Bulletin, Shevelyov is suspected of embezzling $710 million in a probe related to the construction of KazAtomProm’s new nuclear power plants.

The previous head of KazAtomProm, Muhtar Dzhakishev, was jailed in 2009 on similar charges, the article said.
