NRG Energy enters joint venture for gas-to-liquids, renewable fuels

Waste Management Inc. (NYSE:WM), Ventech Engineers International LLC, NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG) and Velocys plc (LSE:VLS) have entered a joint venture to produce renewable fuels and chemicals from biogas and natural gas using smaller-scale gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology.

The objective is to explore new ways to extract value from the biogas managed at landfills. A new facility will be built at the East Oak landfill in Oklahoma.

Ventech will lead as the engineering contractor. NRG Energy will help develop renewable opportunities and transport natural gas. Velocys, a small-scale GTL technology company, will supply the Fischer-Tropsch reactor.

Engineering and design work for the facility is complete; and final draft permitting documents have been submitted.
