Manitoba Hydro could sell 600 MW of hydroelectric output

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed to look into the sale of up to 600-MW of electricity from Manitoba Hydro to Great River Energy (GRE) beginning in 2020.

The utilities have agreed to discuss supplying some of GRE’s long-term electricity needs from Manitoba Hydro’s proposed hydroelectric plants. An eventual agreement could also utilize a new transmission like from Manitoba to Minnesota.

Manitoba Hydro and GRE have signed a number of power sale and diversity agreements, including a 200-MW agreement that runs until 2030.
