Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) received an order for a pressurizer nozzle spool piece replacement project on the Ringhals 3 nuclear reactor at the Ringhals Nuclear Power Plant in Sweden.
The pressurizer is a core component of pressurized water reactors and the replacement work will use more corrosion-resistant alloys in critical weld joints. The project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
MHI will replace six nozzle welds, including the safety and relief valve joints, using joints constructed of Alloy 690 material. MHI will also perform technical justification, qualification tests, equipment manufacturing, material procurements and replacement work at the Ringhals plant.
MHI has previously delivered three replacement reactor vessel closure heads and replacement control rod drive mechanisms to Ringhals. The plant consists of four reactors, three of which are PWRs.
