Maine’s 8-MW Milford hydroelectric project was awarded the low-impact certification status by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute’s (LIHI) governing board.
The Black Bear hydropower plant will carry the certification until November 13, 2018.
Operators will have to conduct several studies to ensure fish life is not negatively impacted.
The program is designed to help consumers identify low-impact hydropower facilities.
Certification means the owner can market the hydropower project as a certified low-impact facility.
