Alstom will supply five Haliade 150-6 MW offshore wind turbines for a 30 MW project off the coast of Rhode Island.
The Block Island pilot wind farm will be the first to use Alstom’s Haliade turbine. Alstom will also provide 15 years of operation and maintenance support to plant owner Deepwater Wind.
Alstom was part of Dominion Virginia Power’s project, the Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project, which was one of seven picked by the Department of Energy’s advanced technology demonstration projects. Dominion Virginia Power will submit a funding proposal to the DOE for the second phase that will help to validate hurricane resilient offshore turbines, foundation designs and advanced controls.
