FutureGen clean coal power plant receives final approval

The FutureGen clean coal project received the final approval it needed in order to begin construction.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) gave a 25-page approval of the plan that would retrofit the Meredosia coal-fired power plant in Illinois with an oxy-combustion system, air quality control systems, boiler, steel and other control systems. The emissions controls would capture 90 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted and store them underground.
