The Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Research and Education Consortium picked two research projects for funding.
The consortium, led by Missouri University of Science and Technology with partners Ameren Corp. (NYSE: AEE) and Westinghouse, conducts research through the consortium for the nuclear industry. One initiative will involve research aimed at identifying and establishing a sustainable supply chain for SMRs, while the second initiative will identify uncertainty involved in numerical simulation of thermal-hydraulic flow inside an SMR using computational fluid dynamics. This research will help provide software tools to evaluate SMR design and operation and assess safety issues associated with the design and operation of an SMR.
