Xtreme Power, KIUC announces new solar energy power project in Hawaii

Xtreme Power and the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative are collaborating on a new energy storage project in Hawaii. The project, which is Xtreme Power’s eighth system in the state, will be installed on a new 12-MW solar farm.

The project will use lithium ion batteries, and Xtreme Power will deploy its new, modular RAMP Series Energy Storage System – 2 MW, 15 minutes – to provide ramp rate control and fast frequency response to help integrate the 12-MW solar power project.

KIUC currently has 4.5 MW of Xtreme Power systems in operation in Kauai. The project is scheduled for commissioning in May 2014.
