Southern Co., Turner Renewable Energy to acquire Calif. solar power plant

Southern Co. subsidiary Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy have reached an agreement to acquire the 20-MW Adobe Solar Facility in California. The acquisition is expected to close upon the successful completion of construction, which is scheduled for spring 2014.

The project is Southern Co.’s second solar photovoltaic plant in California and the sixth partnership between Southern Co. and Turner Renewable Energy.

The facility will be built, operated and maintained by SunEdison and is located on a 160-acre site in Kern County. The facility has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison, a subsidiary of Edison International.
