The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) completed the fabrication and installation of the containment liner plate (CLP) in the reactor containment building for Barakah nuclear Unit 1, according to Emirates 24/7.
The CLP is one of several defense-in-depth barriers at nuclear power plants. The cylindrical steel shell forms the inner wall, ceiling and floor of the containment building, the article said. The structure was built and installed in 19 stages over the past nine months.
The Barakah site will use four, 1,400 MW APR1400 reactors designed by the Korean Electric Power Co. Unit 1 is expected to come online in 2017, with the remaining units to come online each year up to 2020.
