Market day simulations for entities in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) South region will begin this week. The simulations are an important step for customers joining MISO, allowing them to test how well their systems work with MISO’s systems.
MISO expanded its reliability coordination services in June and will manage an additional 18,000 miles of the interconnected bulk transmission in the South. Beginning Dec. 19, MISO will coordinate all reliability transmission organization in the newly combined footprint. The expansion makes MISO one of the world’s largest power grid operators with responsibility for 65,280 miles of transmission lines.
Todd Hillman, vice president of MISO’s South region, said the grid operator was satisfied with its progress and the transition is going well.
Participants will next submit data to MISO’s Independent Market Monitor in mid-October, followed by a partial year financial transmission rights auction in November.
