The city of Coachella was looking for ways to reduce its high electricity bill for the Water Reclamation Plant. The city decided to convert 3 acres of land adjacent to the water treatment facility into a 420 kW concentrated solar photovoltaic project. The $2.7 million project uses 55 SolFocus SF-1100S ground-mounted CPV systems incorporating 1,540 panels. Solar Power Partners financed, owns, and operates the plant, and sells the output to the water reclamation plant under a long-term power purchase agreement. The average monthly bill for the water reclamation facility has been reduced by more than 65 percent.
