NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG), through its wholly-owned subsidiary NRG Solar, said that Unit 1 at the planned 392 MW Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in California was synced to the power grid for the first time.
The test demonstrates the effectiveness of the station’s power tower technology, NRG said in a statement. Power generated from the test will go to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E, NYSE: PCG) under a power purchase agreement. Unit 3 is also under a PPA with PG&E, while Unit 2 has a PPA signed with Southern California Edison.
