Areva decontaminates nuclear power components in France

Areva decontaminates major components of Chooz A nuclear power plant France

Areva successfully decontaminated major components of the Chooz A nuclear power plant in northern France, the first project of its kind for Areva in France.

The company decontaminated the primary loop elements, which are four steam generators, the pressurizer and the primary loop lines. The process was completed by gradually putting chemical substances into the primary circuit and circulating them over several days until it is completed. The components are now classified as “very low level waste,” and have been transferred to a National Radioactive Waste Management Agency facility for storage.
