A bill that would require investor-owned utilities in Minnesota to use solar power is headed to conference committee in an attempt to work out a compromise after being passed by the state Senate, according to McClatchy-Tribune Information Services.

The state Senate passed a version of the bill requiring investor-owned use solar power for 1 percent of customer needs by the end of 2025, a smaller percentage than the 4 percent solar requirement that had previously passed in the state House of Representatives, according to the report.

According to McClatchy, the legislation is modeled after the state’s renewable energy policies that have benefited the wind power industry.
