MidAmerican Energy plans to add up to 1,050 MW of wind generation, or up to 656 wind turbines, in Iowa by year-end 2015.
If the Iowa Utilities Board approves the plan, MidAmerican will own and operate approximately 3,335 MW of wind in the state by the end of 2015. The company currently owns and operates approximately 2,285 MW of wind in Iowa.
The expansion will provide in excess of $360 million in additional property tax revenues over the next 30 years and landowners are expected to be paid $3.2 million per year. In addition, the expansion is planned to be built at no net cost to customers.
