Ohio Power Siting Board approves new natural gas-fired power plant

The Ohio Power Siting Board has recently approved plans for Oregon Clean Energy LLC to build an $860 million natural gas-fired power plant in Oregon, Ohio.

According to information from Oregon Clean Energy, the 800 MW project will help offset a loss of power capacity caused by coal-fired plant closings in the area. A total of 1,611 MW of coal-fired power capacity is expected to go offline in the area by 2015.

The plant is expected to begin construction in October 2013 and begin commercial operations in May 2016, according to Oregon Clean Energy.
