Susquehanna nuclear unit down for planned maintenance, turbine inspection

PPL Corp. (NYSE: PPL) said workers shut down Unit 2 at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania on April 13 for a planned refueling and maintenance outage.

During the outage, workers will replace about 40 percent of the uranium fuel and complete a number of equipment maintenance tasks and upgrades. Workers will also inspect the turbines and replace parts of the turbine assembly.

Unit 1 will operate through the outage, but it is scheduled to be shut down in the spring for the same modifications.
