The Babcock & Wilcox Co. (NYSE: BWC) announced that its subsidiary, Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group (B&W PGG), signed a contract with FutureGen Industrial Alliance to begin the next phase of the 167 MW FutureGen 2.0 carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Illinois.

B&W PGG’s scope of work includes the design of the oxy-combustion system, air quality control systems, boiler, steel and other control systems.

The FutureGen 2.0 project consists of an upgrade to an existing power plant in Meredosia, Ill. with B&W’s oxy-combustion technology to capture more than 90 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted.
