Westinghouse rumored to be leading in Temelin nuclear bid

Westinghouse bid Temelin nuclear power plant build Czech Republic Areva

In the tender for the contract to build two additional reactors at the Temelin nuclear plant in the Czech Republic, Westinghouse is rumored to be in the lead, the Prague Daily Monitor reports.

The Czech power company taking bids, CEZ, has denied reports that any firm is leading in the tender. “The preliminary evaluation of the bidders in the tender for the construction of two new units in nuclear plant Temlein has not yet been closed and therefore any news about an interim ranking is pure speculation,” said a CEZ spokeswoman, according to the newspaper.

The two new units are planned to go live in 2025, doubling the output of the two 963 MW reactors currently operational at the plant.
