GE introduces wind turbine for low wind speeds

GE Power Conversion wind turbine testing facility Denmark

GE (NYSE: GE) announced the 2.5-120 wind turbine, designed for a 25 percent increase in efficiency and a 15 percent increase in power output at low wind speeds.

The turbine features a 120-meter rotor and has a maximum hub height of 139 meters, which makes it ideal for heavily forested areas in places like Canada and Europe, GE said.

The 2.5-120 also minimizes sound through advanced controls technology, and is optimized for IEC Wind Class III and DIBT WZ2 standards. It is available for 50 Hz and 60 Hz applications.
