Wind overtakes nuclear in China for now

China wind overtakes nuclear China Wind Energy Association

In China, power generated by wind turbines in 2012 totaled 1,004 billion kilowatt-hours, surpassing that produced by nuclear reactors for the first time, according to data released by the China Wind Energy Association, AsianCorrespondent.com reports.

Wind’s position over nuclear is not expected to hold for long, however. Currently, 2 percent of the energy produced in China comes from nuclear power, but that number is set to double – or more – by 2020, as the country continues to invest heavily in developing its nuclear power fleet.
