Tenaska and the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announced Jan. 28 that they have entered into a development and purchase agreement for construction of a proposed 800 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Brownsville, Texas.
BPUB would have an ownership interest in the proposed plant, currently called the Tenaska Brownsville Generating Station, which entitles it to receive 200 MW, and will also supply water to the facility as well as provide the natural gas interconnection.
Construction is expected to take between 22 and 26 months and would provide 600 to 700 jobs at its peak, with 25 full-time positions expected. Ground is scheduled to be broken in 2014 once Tenaska secures all necessary permits and contracts.
